Charging an electric vehicle can triple the peak energy demand of a typical home. As more Americans purchase EVs, utility providers must rethink how they allocate power, manage consumption, and protect the grid's integrity during peak hours. Leveraging over a century of expertise in electrical technology, Hubbell Inc. partnered with ELEVEN to develop a smart infrastructure solution that intelligently connects utility providers to customers’ consumption habits—helping to stabilize and improve the grid in real time.

ELEVEN’s research team interviewed EV owners to better understand their attitudes and behaviors and observed the common practices and pain points of EVSE installation experts. The result: a Level 2 EVSE that’s simple to install, sealed against water ingress, aesthetically pleasing, and affordable.

The Hubbell Aclara EV2c introduces features that go beyond standard EVSE charging requirements, enhancing the user experience. Its status is visible from any distance via colored LEDs, and an integrated meter securely communicates real-time data to utility providers while vehicles are charging. EV owners can opt into a program that allows the utility to adjust power draw during periods of high grid demand. These savings can be passed on to the owner, encouraging cooperation with utilities and reducing the financial burden of EV ownership. Durable for both indoor and outdoor use, the EV2c is optimized for compact spaces—such as garages and driveways—thanks to a close-to-the-wall cord wrap that minimizes its footprint. Designed to blend seamlessly into any home, the Hubbell Aclara EV2c is a smart, space-conscious, and affordable choice for today’s EV drivers.
